Global Challenge Theme

This year, the OneEarth Global Challenge focuses on population decline, a demographic shift reshaping societies across the world.

Declining birth rates and aging populations are no longer isolated national concerns. They are interconnected global challenges affecting economic systems, labor markets, education structures, healthcare systems, and long-term social sustainability.

For young people, population decline is not simply a statistical trend. It directly influences the future of work, family structures, economic stability, and quality of life.

Through this initiative, OneEarth invites students to explore these issues not just as observers, but as researchers, thinkers, and problem-solvers.

Population Decline & Our Shared Future

Students participating in the OneEarth Global Challenge are organized into six continental teams, each exploring population decline from a regional perspective.

This structure allows participants to understand both regional differences and global patterns of demographic change.

Each team will:

  • Review existing academic research and demographic data
  • Analyze trends in birth rates, aging populations, and migration
  • Identify key social, economic, and cultural challenges
  • Propose forward-looking solutions from a youth perspective

Through this comparative approach, students gain a deeper understanding of how local realities connect to broader global issues.

A Global Youth-Led Research Approach

Developing Future Global Leaders

Through participation in the OneEarth Global Challenge, students develop essential skills while engaging with real-world global challenges.

  • Cross-Cultural Perspectives
Working with peers from different regions strengthens cultural understanding and global awareness.
  • Real-World Data Experience
Students gain experience analyzing global datasets and applying research methodologies to complex societal questions.
  • Communication & Leadership
Presentations, discussions, and collaborative projects help students build confidence, articulate ideas clearly, and develop leadership skills.
